OUR
UNIQUE APPROACH TO MEASURE AND EFFECTIVELY REDUCE NON-REVENUE-WATER«

Contributing to a water-positive world with GWF BALANCE: Reduce water network leakage by 35%.*

Water network leakage is one of the most pressing challenges for water utilities. In many regions of the world, 30, 40, even over 50% of the water pumped into water networks is lost through leakage. Growing population, climate change and aging infrastructure are adding to the losses. These are costly losses – and often times costly interventions such as infrastructure replacements are seen as the only way out. BUT: we have shown that it is beneficial to first gain an in-depth understanding of the network quality and leakage levels through data. AND: based on our generated data, we have shown that we can reduce network leakage by 35% – without costly infrastructure investments.

Why you should consider GWF BALANCE for your water network
GWF BALANCE DELIVERS HOLISTIC INSIGHTS AND IMMEDIATE IMPACT

Low cost/investment: Only three sensors per DMA.
GWF BALANCE creates a holistic dataset for a District Metered Area (DMA) with one highly accurate flow meter and two pressure sensors. We are happy to use existing sensors, if feasible. No further infrastructure work is required, no interruptions in service occur.

35% leakage reduction: Significant savings of water and energy.
On average, GWF BALANCE reduces 35% of current leakage levels. The economic effect of this reduction is significant: utilities lower their OPEX for water transport and treatment. Associated CO2 reductions can add up to bankable assets.

Improved network: Optimized asset lifetime and less friction.
GWF BALANCE optimizes the network pressure which results in less mains breaks and less wear of infrastructure components such as pipes, valves, and meters. Utilities can expect an overall optimized asset lifetime.

Fast implementation: Sustainable impact within 8 weeks.
We have a proven implementation process for GWF BALANCE that delivers first insights within a few weeks. After eight weeks, leakage reduction is in effect and volumetric benefits can be captured. A highly collaborative project delivery ensures that impact sticks.

Better decisions: Select & prioritize investments based on data.
Based on the data gathered with GWF BALANCE, you can model different interventions and decide on the right improvement measure per zone and on the right priorities in the network. Your capital spend will be more effective, efficient, and sustainable.

Guaranteed and audited impact: Independently verified results.
The results of GWF BALANCE are independently audited by reputable firms, providing an additional layer of credibility and assurance. This independent verification underscores the reliability of the methodology and the tangible benefits it delivers to water utilities.

How we work with you: GWF BALANCE FOLLOWS A PROVEN 8-WEEK IMPLEMENTATION PROCESS

STEP 1:
Project kick-off, data review, zone selection

Together with you, we set up a full day workshop to review data, select zones, define measurement points, and agree on overall project implementation

STEP 2:
Stakeholder engagement and GWF BALANCE platform setup

Based on the project plan, we engage with relevant stakeholders (e.g., fire department) and prepare the platform for the project.

STEP 3:
Sensor
installations and data network setup

Our field engineers install the necessary sensors and gateways for data collection. We usually set up our own data network based on LoRa.

STEP 4:
Flow and
pressure data collection

Over the period of 7-14 days, we collect flow and pressure data from our sensors in high granularity. This data allows us to collect all necessary information for STEPS 5 and 6 and to create a base line.

STEP 5:
Implementation of N1-step-test

Together with you, we determine the best timing for a 45-minute step test, where we methodically change the pressure in the network. This test will not be recognized by end customers.

STEP 6:
GWF
BALANCE calculations

All data from STEP 4 and 5 are collected on our GWF BALANCE platform. Now, the data is analyzed with our proprietary algorithms and all necessary intervention data is being developed.

STEP 7:
Intervention design and implementation

Based on STEPS 4-6 specific adjustments to the network pressure are recommended and implemented. Therefore, existing or new PRVs are set to optimal pressure points.

STEP 8:
Validation and sustaining impact

The impact of GWF BALANCE is benchmarked against the baseline and other GWF BALANCE projects. The project team agrees on re-testing timeline to sustain and/or further improve impact.
